    What about slides? Are those okay? Or same thing?

    • @YourWellnessNerd
      @YourWellnessNerd Годину тому

      Slides tend to be better because you don’t need to use your big toe to hold them on your feet. They’re still not as ideal as sandals that self secure at the back, but typically they’re better than flip-flops in comparison.

    So would you say that pec minor tightness in combination with the posterior tightness would cause forward head posture due to tightened neck muscles as a result of compensation along with brachial plexus restrictions and potential breathing difficulties?

    Got into them a little over a year ago, hoping to fix my many problems. The foot soreness is easily overcome by breaking into them slowly. And I do feel they make my feet stronger. However, these days I feel that my barefoots are appropriate for some activities (like the gym, boxing, cleaning house, etc) but if I’m doing a lot of walking or standing (especially on concrete or pavement) I’m better off with more support. Even then, I think wide toe box shoes that aren’t quite barefoot (like Altras , for example) are a good thing. I also noticed that -at this time - much of the physiotherapist community has not all officially jumped onboard with barefoot shoes. Correct me if I’m wrong, of course. Thanks for all the great videos.

    This is a very good video mate, especially identifying ribcage / thoracic as the reason why the ac would become separated. and also saying that the reason the pec gets tight constantly is it is being put in a shortened position by the ribcage. the only thing i would add here is that there are ways to go at it without the massage ball. breathing exercises in a variety of positions, using gravity to assist and also using a variety of reaches (high reach v low reach) biases air into different parts of the ribcage resulting in expansion of the jammed up areas, if drills are done well enough the ribcage becomes mobile again. it's too late for my AC though ha ha

    Is it normal to feel sore after doing the stretch? I did it very well today and my femurs had so much more range of motion and it felt amazing. It’s been years since I felt my femurs actually in its proper place. But now I’m sore. So 2 questions… Is that normal? And will it get loose if I continue to stretch the capsule and then cause it to be unstable? Or what would Happen if you constantly need to stretch? Thanks!

    How do I help AC ligaments heal tighter and help lessen the bump? I’m still waiting for an appt to see a physical therapist. Injury occurred in R shoulder almost four months ago, FEB2024. Got athletic tape but no idea how to apply. Hoping to be told there *is* a way to prevent the bump being permanent. If it’s not too late, I’ll take the pain, and put in all the training it takes. Just don’t know how. Last physicians I saw asked how long ago - 12 weeks. They said something like “healing times over, rehabilitation time begins”. Being told by a very confident NP that I should only hope that it isn’t too late before I see the PT for advice, answers, and training to mitigate deformities whilst softly shaking his head in a mild pity. It made my self consciousness of it so much worse. Like, no matter how desperately dedicated I got into strength training, felt feeling like I will always be less in potential. Forever “weaker” than before. I’ll put the work in if it’s not too late. The accident was a bit traumatic- flying shoulder plant on a snowboard. I was seeing stars and only felt pain. Hairline fractures don’t scare me like this does and I’ve had five of those between three occasions. Dislocated wrists too healed fine, but every day I’m asking when it will go away. 98% of the pain feels gone but it sucks picturing buffalo wing deboning every spanking day. Is it *really* just cosmetic when it doesn’t look or feel that way?

    Years of ballet lessons since childhood have heavily impacted the natural position of my feet when walking. Ballet tends to normalize the feet being in positions where they’re turned outward and toes are pointed. I’ve danced for so long that these position have become second nature for me. In ballet, first position is standing with the heels together, and the toes pointed outward. Sometimes I notice myself naturally standing this way, because I’ve done it so much 😢 How do we correct our foot positioning and walking when we’ve been doing it incorrectly for so many years?

  • @ScottRosa2008

    I got plantar fasciitis about 4-5 years ago (from a sudden increase in running I think) and that was with traditional running trainers on. As it was so painful even when getting up from sitting down a short while (like when on a flight) I started doing foot and ankle exercises that I found online and wearing Birkenstocks around the house for the arch support. No barefoot anywhere apart from in the shower! I also wore orthotic footbeds in my hiking boots and work shoes and that really helped, I had never needed orthotics before but they helped massively with the healing process. It took about 1-1.5 years to go completely. On thru hikes I kept getting blisters on the outside of my big toe and on my little toe so having seen people wearing Altra Lone Peaks in Chamonix I got some of them about a year ago as they were so much wider and they eliminated that problem immediately. I was worried the plantar fasciitis would come back as they had no arch support at all but it hasn’t. I now wear Merrell Trail Glove 6 to work and they are great, the Vapor Glove 6 is much thinner on the sole so you can feel every stone underneath your foot so I’d only use those in the gym for strength and mobility training. The Altra Lone Peaks and the Merrel Trail Gloves are ok for walking/running on pavement but I wouldn’t want to run far in them I’d be scared to try. For running on pavement I use my Brooks Glycerin 20 as they are wide enough too. Haven’t used an orthotic for ages now, only in ski boots as they’ve been in there from the start.

    Valuable perspective, thank you. Regarding practicality, are we supposed to be doing the neck ball rolling daily? hourly? Preventatively or reactively? I have recurring tendonitis in my hands and forearms, and my fingers become stiff to bend, also feel slight sensation in bicep/shoulder. If i rest for weeks i can use the mouse/keyboard but soon the pain comes back after a few days of intense use, so i need a long term solution... Is it worth me trying to get either an MRI or ultrasound ? I used to do the same motions/activity endlessly when younger for years without issue before I developed problems, I'm honestly so frustrated. Please advise if you would be so kind, thank you 🙏🏻

    • @YourWellnessNerd
      @YourWellnessNerd 5 днів тому

      I can’t speak to your condition specifically unfortunately, but the ball exercise can be done daily to find and reduce joints stiffness and dysfunction. Whether there’s any soreness there or not, if there is still some restriction than there can be the potential for dysfunction.

    My 58 year old mother has baker's cyst and rheumatoid arthritis. Could you recommend some exercises that might help her heal and deal with the stiffness and pain at the back of the knee?

  • @AndrewG817
    @AndrewG817 5 днів тому

    My barefoot journey started with running shoes; running would always give me knee pain and I heard that landing on the ball of your foot rather than your heel could help. The guy at the store warned me to take it easy, but I ignored him and did my normal run. I couldn't walk for a few days after that lol, but overall I did see benefits over time. I eventually got into barefoot shoes for every day use after experiencing ankle and knee pain from basic movements like walking and squatting. Those shoes combined with exercises from Ben Patrick (kneesovertoesguy) genuinely transformed my life. I almost gave up on barefoot shoes at one point as they exposed an issue with my hip, leading me to be more flat footed than I should, but your video on posterior tibial tendinitis helped me through that. The only downside is the selection of shoes is much smaller. I used to love my Birkenstocks, but so far I haven't found a sandal that looks as nice and is flexible with no arch support. It does seem like there are more brands catching onto the trend though.

    • @YourWellnessNerd
      @YourWellnessNerd 5 днів тому

      I hear you mate, I’m hopeful that everyone will get to the stage where barefoot shoes are comfortable eventually. It helps that there are more dedicated brands bringing out better quality shoes as well!

After watching this I realized I switched to a shoe with a raised heel awhile back because of some arch pain I was having. I work on my feet all day long, so this morning I created a wedge with my mat I stand on so my toes would be more elevated while I stand, good idea? Bad idea? Thanks

    15 years on and off thanks to injuries. I came back to barefoot shoes last year after a break of 2 years and was almost a newbie. Foot muscle strength had deteriorated that fast plus I gained weight. So I worked on foot strength and bought winter barefoot shoes too to not break up walking. Snow and felt insole softened the foot landing and was easier on my leg injuries than my summer shoe on asphalt. So if you are overweight, have injuries and weak foot muscles it may be a good idea to walk on soft surfaces possibly with a soft insole too. Grass or snow are better training surfaces than asphalt and a thicker sole and insole than on barefoot socks or the thinnest barefoot shoes can reduce injury chances. Treading on the whole foot instead of landing on the heel helps in lessening pains. Do not buy barefoot shoes that are a lot longer than the longest toe because the front can stick to ground. Half a pinky more length in the shoe toebox than the longest toe should work for most. Almost a year of walking and 2 km is about the most I can walk without pains. It can take months to get adjusted to even a few hundred meters. Overdoing training bites back hard easily.
